Jack Bortle President, SJB Management Inc.

Mr. Bortle graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Finance.  In 1969 he organized his own insurance agency, Financial Alternatives, which he owned and operated for 23 years.  Financial Alternatives was involved with business and personal financial planning, employee benefit plans and group health insurance.

 

He earned his CLU and ChFC designations from the American College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.  In addition to being past president of the Southeast Ohio Life Underwriters Association, Mr. Bortle has also been a member of the Million Dollar Round Table.  Fidelity Union Life Insurance Company, of Dallas, Texas, named him to their Hall of Fame both as an agency manager and as a personal producer.

 

Mr. Bortle serves as Chairman of the Athens County Port Authority as well as the Athens County Economic Development Council.  He is past president of the Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau and past secretary of the Athens County Community Improvement Corporation. Mr. Bortle also served on the Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association Board.

  

Sandra Bortle earned her B.S. Degree from Western Michigan University and a M.Ed. from Ohio University.  She taught in the Business Department of Hocking College for ten years.  After leaving education, Mrs. Bortle obtained her insurance license and worked as a recruiting coordinator and health/casualty insurance representative for Financial Alternatives. She left that position in February of  1988 to become the General Manager of the Days Inn, Athens, Ohio.  She assumed the position of General Manager of AmeriHost Inn, Athens, Ohio when it opened in 1989. Due to the growth of the company, Mrs. Bortle began working in corporate management in 1992.

 Mrs. Bortle currently serves on the Board of Directors on the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce and as a trustee on the board of the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC). She formerly served on the boards of the Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association, O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, Bank One, Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Athens Foundation, and worked on the fund raising committee for Athens County Habitat for Humanity.


 Chad Bortle is currently the Vice President of Operations for SJB Management Inc., a hotel development and management company that owns and manages hotels in Ohio, Indiana, and West Virginia.  Previous to his work with SJB Management Inc., Chad was an Assistant Vice President with CCS Fundraising, an international fundraising consulting firm; successfully directing capital campaigns that raised over $200 million dollars for a variety of non-profit organizations in Oklahoma, Florida, and California.

 Chad received a graduate degree from Case Western Reserve University’s Mandel Center of Non Profit Management and is also a graduate of the University of Dayton with a bachelor’s degree in English and History. Chad formerly served as a board member with the Iron Disorders Institute since 2006.  He serves on the OHLA Board, The Board of Directors for Rural Action,  and on the board for the Newark Ice Hockey Association.    He dedicates his spare time to youth sports serving as a baseball coach and Youth Hockey coach.  He resides in Granville, Ohio, with his son and wife.

 

Kristen Bortle received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Social Work and a Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration from Ohio University.  Prior to working with SJB Management, Kristen worked with various charitable organizations serving families and children.  Kristen has provided counseling and educational, and mentoring services for families in foster care, Head Start, Parent Support, and early childhood behavior management programs. Kristen also served as a Program Director for CCS Fundraising successfully aiding capital campaigns in South Florida and Northern California. 

Currently, Kristen provides regional support to the hotels in the SJB Management Group through assistance with sales, marketing, human resources, and data management.

 Kristen is an active volunteer with Granville Schools and with Pathways of Central Ohio.
